About The Role

Reporting to the Training & Quality manager the Operational Trainer is responsible for delivering high‑quality, consistent training to warehouse operatives across all functions, ensuring colleagues are fully competent, safe, and compliant with operational standards. The role supports onboarding, skills development, SOP training, manual handling, and continuous improvement of training materials to maintain a high‑performing, safety‑focused workforce

About You

Key Responsibilities

1. Deliver Operational Training

  • Deliver training to new and existing colleagues across all warehouse functions (picking, packing, loading, goods‑in, replenishment, returns, etc.).
  • Train colleagues on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure full understanding of process requirements.
  • Deliver mandatory training including manual handling, safety essentials, and warehouse basics.
  • Provide refresher training and upskilling sessions as required.

2. Onboarding & Induction

  • Lead warehouse induction sessions for new starters.
  • Introduce safety standards, site rules, equipment use, and operational expectations.
  • Ensure new colleagues receive structured, supportive on‑the‑job training.

3. Competency Assessment & Sign‑Off

  • Conduct practical assessments to confirm colleague competence.
  • Maintain accurate training records, sign‑off sheets, and compliance documentation.
  • Identify skill gaps and recommend targeted training interventions.

4. SOP Ownership & Continuous Improvement

  • Support the creation, review, and updating of SOPs to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Work with Operations and H&S teams to ensure SOPs reflect safe, efficient working practices.
  • Provide feedback on process improvements based on training observations.

5. Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture through consistent training and reinforcement.
  • Deliver manual handling training aligned to H&S standards.
  • Ensure colleagues understand safe systems of work, risk controls, and PPE requirements.
  • Support incident investigations where training or competence is a factor.

6. Coaching & on‑the‑Job Support

  • Provide floor‑based coaching to colleagues needing additional support.
  • Reinforce correct behaviours and challenge unsafe or non‑compliant practices.
  • Work closely with Team Leaders to support colleague development.

7. Training Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain training matrices and ensure compliance with mandatory training cycles.
  • Provide weekly/monthly training KPI updates
  • Track training completion, competency levels, and refresher requirements.

8. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations Team Leaders and H&S to align training with business needs.
  • Support operational changes, new equipment rollouts, and process launches with appropriate training plans.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Training completion rate (%).
  • New starter competency sign‑off within target timeframe.
  • Reduction in errors linked to training gaps.
  • Compliance with mandatory training cycles.
  • Quality of SOP adherence observed on the floor.
  • Feedback scores from trainees and operational leaders.
  • Reduction in manual handling incidents or unsafe behaviours.
